Again Kasargod Kadherbhai

Medium : Malayalam
Starring : Jagadeesh, Gautham, Innocent, Asokan, Biju Kuttan, Suresh Krishna, Radha Varma
Director : Thulasidas
Music : Ratheesh Vega

We are still remembering the issues happened between some organizations in the movie industry, few years back. One end of the trouble was Thulasidas, the director who doesn't have big hits recently. His movies like 'College Kumaran', 'Rakshakan', 'Avan Chandiyude Makan', 'Mr. Brahmachari', 'Pranayamani Thooval' etc didn't do well. At that time, the hero who was about to act in his new project, requested him to prove (again) by giving a hit. Anyway, it is an old case now, the problems are over. The director, after a short gap, is back with another sequel of his previous hit movie 'Mimics Parade', happened almost twenty years before. 'Kasargod Kadherbhai', which came as the second part of that movie has got a pass certificate due to the comedy trend existed in that period.

'Again Kasargod Kadherbhai' has got Jagadeesh, Innocent, Babu Antony, Asokan and Baiju, that has acted in the previous versions. Radha Varma, who did the heroine role in Dileep's 'Crazy Gopalan' is coming as the heroine. 'Yakshiyum Njaanum' fame Gautham comes in a notable role. Kalloor Dennis is maintained as the script writer for this movie also. Utpal V.Nayanar is the cinematographer. This is producer Milan Jaleel's next movie after the notable project 'Cock Tail'. Ratheesh Vega, who worked as the music director for that movie gets another chance here.

The members (Salim Kumar, Biju Kuttan, Dhananjayan, Tesni Khan etc) of Kaladarshana troup had decided to celebrate the 60th birthday of father Tharakkandam (Inncoent). The old members (Jagadeesh, Asokan, Baiju) were also invited. After few days, all of them together got a chance to perform in the central jail where Kasim Bhai (Babu Antony), the son of Kadher Bhai also stays. Kasim attacks the troupe members in the middle of the show and later it was found that Kasim is dead. The police inspector (Gautham) took in charge of the investigation. The real culprit is caught in the climax.

There is not a single attractive scene in the whole movie. The dialogues are filled with many double meaning words. The comedy sequences shown here is too childish. The scenes at hospital and at the office where troupe members trying to attract the heroine are best examples. A couple of stage shows done by the troupe is shown as it is to generate comedy (the creators are still not aware that the viewers are getting a chance to watch comedy skits every minute in their favorite tv channels, this is not the 90's where there existed only one or two tv channels).

Suraaj Venjarammood once again comes in a foolish police officer who is a mimicry fan. He had done a lengthy imitating scene of many heroes, which is a repetitive thing only. The dialogue delivery of Gautham in the police officer's role is not matching well. The head shaking mannerism of the father character is an artificiality here. The second song suitable for a romantic mood is done in a comic way, featuring the oldies. The interval punch is serious, but the director had asked the viewers to take a break so that they can laugh again. The only agreeable thing shown in the whole movie is the climax where the police describes the motive of the crime, but by that time an average viewer might be in a 'pathetic' state of mind.

Movies like 'Again Kasargod Kadherbhai' will provoke more viewers to take a strong decision, not to come to theaters here after...

April Fool

Medium : Malayalam
Starring : Jagadeesh, Sidhiq, Biju Menon, Nayana
Director : Viji Thampy

Music : M.Jayachandran

I had seen a new movie released on the Fools day; with half of the theater capacity only being filled and among them, many left at the interval portion also, the name of the movie is 'April Fool'. Jagadeesh and Sidhi
q played the lead roles here. In these days, when 'In Ghost House Inn' running successfully, these two actors once again joined hands with Asokan (2 scenes), Mukesh and Lal (both came in a scene only). The film is directed by 25+ films older director, Viji Thampy. He is one among the few technicians who came to the field in the second half of 80's, still not getting the chance to direct Mohanlal. His last few films like 'Chemistry', 'Nammal Thammil', 'Krithyam', 'Bada Dosth' etc were big flops. Actor Jagadeesh, who is the writer of films like 'Love Story', 'Oru Muthassikkadha' and 'Adhipan' has written the script for 'April Fool'.

Though I will be watching all the films, Jagadeesh's name as the script writer, gave a little anxiety as far as this project is concerned. In the second scene itself, i smelled something unusual and got into the assumption that 'April Fool' is the carbon copy of 'Bheja Fry', a hindi film released almost 3years before. The lead role done there by Vinay P
athak and Rajat Kapoor were simple but excellent and the film, targeting multiplex audience was a super hit one also. Anyway, I lost the faith at that moment as I was damn sure that the performance of Jagadeesh is not going to be anywhere near Vinay Pathak, who did the lead role there and Viji Thampy can't present the film like Sagar Bellary did.

Krishnanunni (Jagadeesh), who works in the Income tax department reaches the music company
owner's (Sidhiq) house as per invitation from him. The latter one wants a fool for the peculiar type of party, conducted every week in their club. This time, they have selected Krishnanunni, without informing him about this cruel game. He is an innocent guy, who is a music lover also. He is offered a chance to sing in an album by the rich man. Thus he reached the latter's apartment on a friday evening. What happens to the party, whether Krishnanunni is able to entertain all with his foolishness is shown in the later portions.

Jagadeesh, in the lead role is over acti
ng all the time. The way in which he renders different songs for each and every situations, will be helpful to lose your temper. His habit of showing the album is another area that make you restless. The scene in which Sidhiq ordering the food through the phone is too lengthy and un professional. The two songs in the film is presented in a amateurish and below average way, among them 'sundariyam soumini...' song should have been popular if it has been given to the hands of some high school students to shoot. Sidhiq, who is the music company owner, asks the mixing engineer/music director to cut down the sound through actions in the song; it shows that the creators don't know anything in such an area and they under estimates the audiences by showing those foolishness shots. The scene in which Jagadeesh watching cricket also felt unnatural. Nayana, who comes as Sidhiq's wife is struggling for presenting dialogues, their relationship is also not neatly presented. The apartment's indoor, where more than 90% of the film happens, is incorporated with lengthy shots and amateur comedy situations.

M.Jayachandran's bg score is dominated by bg sounds, as they are given as if to match the comedy situations here. Sanjee
v Shankar is the cinematographer.

Remaking a subject is a good idea, but you should also be aware whether the situation in the original one matches with the current version also (watch 'Bheja Fry' in dvds available, for such a comparison). Mammootty's next film has to be directed by Jagadeesh; before starting the project, the former one should think twice and "request" the latter to homework well...

No one was able to fool me till evening 6pm on April 1st, but Viji Thampy and Jagadeesh team succeeded there after by showing their product named 'April Fool'.

Cheriya Kallanum Valiya Policum

Medium : Malayalam
Starring : Jagadeesh, Mukesh, Suraaj Venjarammood, Vidya
Director : Haridas Kesavan

Music : Thej Merwin

Only thing which provoked me in watching 'Cheriya Kallanum Valiya Policum' is the fact that the film entered the 2nd week in my home city(?). Though there are senior actors like Jagat
hi, Mukesh and Jagadeesh in it, the promotion posters of the film mainly contains the current sensation in the industry, Suraaj Venjarammood. Haridas Kesavan (formerly Haridas) has directed the movie. His previous films like 'Kadha Samvidhanam Kunjakko' and 'Magic Lamp' were big flops. Also it is a fact that his first film, which happened almost 20years ago, 'Georgekutty C/O Georgekutty', acted by Jayaram for Renjith's script, was a good one. But after that, his journey continued through projects like 'Indraprastham', 'Kinnarippuzhayoram', 'Kannur', 'Panjaloham' etc. 'Cheriya Kallanum Valiya Policum' is scripted by K.P.Sunil, the director of non hit film 'Good Boys'.

The films starts by showing the hero Kumaaran (Jagadeesh) writing a suicide note to his wife (Vidya) from a far away place. The letter reaches the house and the villagers assembles
there, waiting to see the dead body. At this time, a stranger (Mukesh) also reached there. After a long waiting for days, the local SI (Suraaj Venjarammood) came with the dead body. Once the rites and rituals are done, after few days, a tamilian (Charlie) came with his relatives, claiming for the dead body of their uncle which was wrongly buried there recently. Later, Kumaaran, himself reaches there. He tells his wife about the story of his friend who cheated him by taking money. Finally the villain gang is caught in the fight, police came, all happy (except the 'poor' audience like me who still won't study even after getting big blows like this!!!).

I don't know the relevance of such a title for this film. Don't think that this is the only negative you will be witnessing here! The two children crying and running through the village, passing the news, is a wasted shot. The people waiting the dead body for days, started enjoying games, resembled the hopeless situation in the flop film 'Immini Nalloraal'. How can a senior comedian like Jagathi acted in such a horrible scene of the film history where he inaugurates the arrival of dead body by cutting the ribbon. Indrans, as the drunken man is over acting all the time. Kochu Preman, in the blind's role also tried to say some comic dialogues. The relatives of the heroine and its associated episodes is good for a film in the 60's. The wig make-up of Mukesh is an unprofessional sign. The songs like 'kumaaraa...' and their sudden appearances, the arrival of the tamil peoples, the relatives going out of the house, the incidents at the tea shop etc are some of the irresistible situations. The heroine Vidya coming as the pair of Jagadeesh, looked like a amateurish high school student only. The reason told by hero to drop the suicide attempt is not shown clearly. An unemployed guy spending 10 lakhs for getting a job is an unbelievable thing. Suraaj is casted as the 'bafoon' SI to create laughing, but it has not worked out as it is a repetitive thing only.

Like this, there are many and many....why should I ???

Films like 'Cheriya Kallanum Valiya Policum' are good enough to spoil the name of the whole industry...

Decent Parties

Medium : Malayalam
Starring : Jagadeesh, Vijayaraghavan, Jagathi, Salim Kumar, Meera Vasudev
Director : Abraham Linclon
Music : Johnson Mangazha

Majority of the projects happening these days follows certain trends which exist then. For example, if an action film is a hit, then one after other action films will be releasing; likewise we can see bulk releases of family oriented subjects if a family film becomes popular. Also, certain creators may exploit the popularity of a hero in a particular period. Thus the success of ‘Veruthe Oru Bharya’ and ‘To Harihar Nagar’, helped the team to mould a family based subject, ‘Decent Parties’ where Jagadeesh is the hero. It is directed by Abraham Lincoln, who worked as PRO in the industry for years. Super hit script writer in the 80’s and 90’s, Kalloor Dennis has written the script here after a long gap.

Hero (Jagadeesh) is a videographer and a studio owner. As his assistant does some fraud work by morphing the still photo of the heroine (Meera Vasudev), her marriage arrangements collapses. The hero gets pity and marries her. His ambition to work in the cine field is in the brim of success with the help of his friend (Salim Kumar), who is a production controller. His friend borrows some money with such an intention. Later only he came to know that he is cheated and his relatives gets angry. He even finds difficulty to buy medicine for his pregnant wife. In the climax, the friend is caught, the real facts are known and he also gets the advance amount for writing a new script. Meanwhile, his wife gave birth to a baby.

In the current period, we can’t accept Jagadeesh doing hero oriented subjects like he did earlier. In his 50's, the hero dreaming about his marriage arrangements won't be easily accepted. There are also no good comedy situations. The family based scenes are also not shown seriously. The visuals are not rich. The scene in which hero does his job using crane looks amateur, the new face who did hero’s godfather has got many scenes, but he looks un-professional. We are not shown clearly about the assistant who cheated the hero. Shots inside the bus, captured from a certain point are still and it not at all gives the moving feel. The scenes happening inside the studio doesn’t look natural. The negative expressions of many amateur artists are evident here. The costumer should have done his job seriously; it is shame that the villain, hero and the old man character wears the same dhoti with the same designs. Prathapan’s cinematography is ordinary. Jagadeesh, in the hero character seems to be dull always.

‘Decent Parties’ doesn’t give you a pleasurable atmosphere. So, it is better if you stay away from them.
