Pyaar Impossible

Medium : Hindi
Starring : Uday Chopra, Priyanka Chopra, Dino Morea, Anupam Kher

Direction : Jugal Hansraj

Music : Salim-Sulaiman

Mega production - distribution banner, Yash Raj Films had come up with their first project in the new year, 'Pyaar Impossible' having Uday Chopra and Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles. Uday is not a big competitor for the front runners among the bollywood stars. But he has been notable throu
gh films like 'Mohabbatein' and 'Dhoom' series. Former miss world, Priyanka Chopra, who got a good last year through films like 'Kaminey', 'Whats Your Rashee' etc is also one of the leading artists in the hindi film industry these days. The hero himself had written the script and Jugal Hansraj, who had acted in many films and who is also the director of 'Road Side Romeo' is the director of 'Pyaar Impossible'.

The film begins in the University of California, where Abhay (Uday Chopra) and Alisha (Priyanka Chopra) studied. He likes the girl. He was unable to express the love as he thinks that he is an under-rated guy as far as glamor and fashion is concerne
d. After his college days, he reached India. During these 7 years, he is still having Alisha in his mind. He has developed a computer operating system these days and the client (Dino Morea) who was willing to buy his software, cheated him and left the country. He reached Singapore in search of the villain. There he meets Alisha. He came to know that she is a divorced mother now and had got a daughter. He reaches her home as the care taker of her daughter. How he wins her love and what happens to the person who had cheated him is shown in the rest portions.

Uday Chopra had got a character that suits his body language. Priyanka Chopra is excellent in the role of Alisha. Her presentation in few occasions resembles a hollwood style also. Though it is a small role, the father's role has also been neatly handled by Anupam Kher. The way in which the hero convincing the heroine regarding the importance of beauty and good looking through a song is shown well. Salim-Sulaiman gave some peppy numbers and a good bg score. Cinematographer Santhosh Thundiyil ('Krish', 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', 'Kaal', 'Palungu' fame) had given some colorful visuals. Director Jugal H
ansraj, had tried to exploit the maximum performance from the leading artists in the movie.

The theme of this film had got the flavor of a malayalam film, 'Kilukkampetti' by Shaji Kailas almost 18years ago, where the hero (Jayaram), reaches the house of his lover (Suchitra Krishnamoorthy) as a servant and tries to impress the kid (Baby Shyamili). In some scenes, inspiration of Kamalhassan's film 'Avvai Shanmughi' is also there.

There should have been some difference in costumes and make up for the hero and heroine in a gap of seven years. The hero meets the heroine accidentally in abroad, can be treated as a cinematic coincidence. The revenge episode happens in the climax area only, likewise the college episode happens in the beginning area only, they should have been discussed in more scenes.

'Pyaar Impossible' is not a boring movie; here who have got the charming Priyanka Chopra's performance as the highlight.

Whats Your Rashee

Medium : Hindi
Starring : Harman Baweja, Priyanka Chopra

Direction : Ashuthosh Gowariker

Music : Sohail Sen

The post 2000 period, saw the rise of many new talented directors in the bollywood. One of the promising name in the group is Ashuthosh Gowarikar. He had given big films like 'Lagaan', 'Swadesh' and 'Jodha Akbar'. Now he has come up with his latest film 'Whats Your Rashee', starring Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra. Though the hero's first film 'Love Story 2050'
didn't do well with the same heroine, since the new project is focused mainly on the director, the expectation will be more. Before watching the film, I didn't have any idea regrading the project, but I have heard a couple of songs which felt good.

The hero (Harman Baweja) lives in Chicago doing MBA; he has got some part-time job also. He is being called up by the parents who lives h
ere, in order to fix his marriage. As per the astrologer, his financial status will be raised once his marriage is over. At the same time the grandfather decides to give his wealth to his grandson. Thus his family decides to pay their debts with the money they gets on the marriage occasion, since the hero is not willing to accept the dowry.

Thus in short, 'Whats Your Rashee' is hero's search for his bride with in a very short time. Since the list is endless, finally he decided to see one girl from each Rashee (zodiac sign/lagna). With in such a period, he had seen those 12 girls. Among the list, he likes some of them and some of them likes his attitude also. There were positives and negatives as usual in these cases. All girls were having unique characteristics. Anyway in the end, his marriage happened and even though some tensions occurred on the financial side, that is also solved in climax.

Reading so far, you won't feel anything interesting. There lies the brilliance of the director on the casting side. Don't you feel something unusual, if all those 12 characters are done by the same artist. Yes it happened, Priyanka Chopra did all those different ladies that were ready to marry the hero right from the school girl role to the business tycoon. Thus the main attraction of the show is the excellent performan
ce by the former Miss World in a wide variety of roles. For at least three of those characters, her make up and the body language were distinguishing and appreciative. On the other side, three characters are having the same looks, which the director should have been done differently. Harman has also done his part well. Almost all the artists in the film did justice to their roles.

Once we are aware of the story and the fact that Priyanka is coming in all the roles, you will lose the thrill in the subject. The film is too lengthy; since we know the difficulty in showing all the female characters before the climax itself, we can't blame the director who has used the 3.25hrs length for telling the story. An average viewer might be confused in the climax regard
ing the bride, since all the roles were done by the same lady and appearance in the particular area is a non distinguishable one. It is a fact that in the second half, the film got lagged here and there. The majority of the characters had got songs, which decided the length factor. The visualization of the songs were not rich, but not bad.

Music director Sohail Sen had given some good numbers
. Piyush Shah's cinematography is colorful. The climax songs featuring the hero with all the opposite characters is visualized well. A different making in the humorous background out of an ordinary subject, the credit should go to Ashuthosh Gowariker. By this film, Priyanka Chopra might over take Kamalhassan's record for doing 10 roles in the film 'Dasavatharam'.

'Whats Your Rashee' has got a simple story; but the main attraction lies in its unique presentation where the lead actress holds the key.

Kaminey

Medium : Hindi
Starring : Shahid Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra
Director : Vishal Bharadwaj
Music : Vishal Bharadwaj

Till watching the hit movie ‘Jab We Met’ and analyze his performance, I have got a chocolate image only for the bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor. He is also popular as the ex-lover of glamour girl Kareena Kapoor. Now he has come in a dual appearance in an action film named ‘Kaminey’ (which means “scoundrel”). The film is directed by Vishal Bharadwaj, who gave films like ‘Maqbool’, ‘Omkara’ etc. He came to the field as a music director, doing films like ‘Maachis’, ‘Chachi 420’, ‘Satya’, ‘Dhaya’ (malayalam) etc. Ronnie Schrewvala, who usually takes different subjects, is the producer of ‘Kaminey’.

This is the story of twin brothers Charlie and Guddu (done by Shahid Kapoor) who lived in the streets of Mumbai. As it has to be, both are having contrasting characteristics. Charlie is having a slip of tongue every time he speaks; he says “F” in place of “S”. He is involved in illegal gambling and under world activities. Guddu is a soft guy; he is having a break down in speech fluency. He loves the girl (Priyanka Chopra), who is the sister of a criminal gang leader. Both of them decided to leave the place. Her brother chases them. Charlie, on the other hand, being an enemy is cornered by the police and some notorious gangs. Thus Guddu reaches the hands of police and what all confusions that happen in a double role story is shown here also, but seriously. Anyway in the end, the lovers are safe.

The attraction of the film lies in its presentation and the performance of all the artists, especially Shahid Kappor and Priyanka Chopra. By experience, Shahid is matured and has given a stable and unique show. Priyanka has also given her best. From the style it is evident that the director has inspired the style of foreign films like ‘City of God’ and ‘City of Men’, in which the story happens in the background of underworld gangs and their activities.

The first half of the film is slow. It creates a lagging and some portions create confusion on the viewers also. But later the film takes it’s real pace when the two characters are targeted. The scenes involving the police and their agreement with the criminals inside the train and the climax are notable. Cinematography by Tassaduq Hussain is excellent. “Danta Daan…” is a catchy number by Vishal Bharadwaj.

‘Kaminey’ is a different attempt from Shahid Kapoor, which enhances his journey to stardom.
